When we leave this world, we will ask ourselves one question: What’s
Different? What’s different because I was here? And the answer to that question will be the difference that we made.
All of our thoughts and feelings won’t matter anymore when we are in our deathbeds asking that question. What will matter is the action we took and the difference that it made.
Yet we continue to obsess about our thoughts and become fascinated with our feelings. We are offended by other people. We want to prove we are right. We make other people wrong. We are disappointed in some people and resent others. It goes on and on and none of it will matter on that deathbed.
Action will be all that matters.
We could have made a difference every hour, every day if we had wanted to.
So how do we do that? How do we motivate ourselves to get into action? How do we live a life of action and difference-making?
You Have No Personality
Do you think that you have a fixed personality, It is just a myth. It is self-limiting and it denies us our power of continuous creation.
In our ongoing creation of who we are, nothing has a greater impact on that process than the choice we make between optimism and pessimism. There are no optimistic or pessimistic personalities; there are only single, individual choices for optimistic or pessimistic thoughts.

Personality is overrated. Who we are is up to us every moment.
The choices we make for our thinking either motivate us or they do not.
And although clear visualization of a goal is a good first step, a joyfully motivated life demands more. To live the life you want to live, the action is required. As Shakespeare said, “Action is eloquence.” And as a psychologist and author Dr. Nathaniel Branden has written, “A goal without an action plan is a daydream.” Motion creates the self. In my experience as a Professional, Coach, consultant, and writer, I have accumulated many ways of thinking that lead directly to motivation. I am always looking for ways of thinking that energize the mind and get us going again.
5 Effective Ways for Self Motivation–
1. Get on your deathbed-
Let’s imagine yourselves lying on your own deathbed and
fully realize the feelings connected with dying and saying good-bye.
Then mentally invite the people in your life who were
important to you to visit your bedside, one at a time. As you visualize each
friend and relative coming in to visit you, you have to speak to them out
loud. you have to say to them what you wanted them to know as you are dying.
As you speak to each person, you would feel your voice breaking. Somehow you can’t help breaking down. Your eyes are filled with tears. You are experiencing such a sense of loss.
You just realized that “It was not my own life I was mourning; it was the love I was losing”.
To be more exact, it was a communication of love that had never been there.
During this difficult exercise, you really can see how much you left out of
your life. How many wonderful feelings you had about others, that you never explicitly expressed.
At the end of the exercise, You will be an emotional mess. You may even feel crying. But when these emotions will clear, some wonderful things will happen. Now you will know what was really important, and who really mattered to you.
“Death can be more exciting than life.”
This exercise will lead you to vow, not to leave anything to chance. You can make up
your mind never to leave anything unsaid. You will want to live as if you may
die at any moment. The entire experience will alter the way you related to
people ever since.

If You are hungry, You will ask for the food, If you can’t get the food, you will try different ways, in some situations when there is no choice you may be compelled to beg for food. As you are hungry for food you will not be able to concentrate on anything else other than the food to satisfy your hunger. You will try different ways to reach your desired food, you will ask for help, you will be desperate about the food, and finally, your efforts will win and you will get your food. your efforts will not stop unless you satisfy your hunger.
Now imagine you are not hungry and you have a lot of free time, and you entered a restaurant, will you go and try to get the food? No, certainly not, you will keep your hands folded and wait for the waiter to come to you and ask for the order.
Means, we continue to do efforts when we are hungry for something.
Thus being hungry for something is one of the most important factors that keep you motivated.

The above statement is proved true by the Indian Film and Television Actress Sudha Chandram.
Today this Indian actress and classical dancer need no introduction. Her hunger for Dance and acting made her what she is today.
Sudha Chandran was born in Mumbai on 27th September 1965 and her family ground from Kerala, her father K.D.Chandran worked at USIS and is a former actor. Sudha Chandran earned her B.A. from Mithibai College, Mumbai and later on, she did an M.A. in Economics.
She met with an accident when she was just 16.
Doctors missed a small wound in her ankle and plastered it, which later got infected and there was no alternative left but to cut her leg.
Sudha Chandran says that this period was the toughest time of her life.
She overcame her disability by getting a prosthetic “Jaipur Foot” and became one of the most popular and acclaimed classical dancers of the country. She returned to dancing after a gap of two years and performed in India, Saudi Arabia, USA, UK, Canada, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Yemen, and Oman. Her biography is part of the curriculum for school children in the age group of 8-11.
Yuvraj Walmiki-The Hockey Man, who was rejected 13 times.
Yes, you heard it right, this man was rejected 13 times by the Indian journeyer Hockey Camp, anyone can start looking for other options in life if he/she is rejected more than 3 times.
It is just a normal statistics, but, he who has confidence in his abilities and strong burning desire in the heart, turns every rejection into a learning experience and keeps on adding to his experience.
Yuvraj Walmiki is one live example of such a determined player, whose commitment towards his game is far above any rejection or selection.
He was born on 29 November 1989. He is the only Indian player to have played German Hockey League for 8 years continuously. Also, he is the first hockey player to have participated in (Fear Factor) Khatron Ke Khiladi season 7. He is the brand ambassador of DGS (NGO).
Despite playing both at the club level and regional level, self-motivated Yuvraj was faced with, what he calls, the ‘most discouraging situation’ of his career to date.
“Even after being selected for the Junior World Cup team, I was not allowed to play at the last moment.”
With just two days to go, for the tournament, he was informed that he had been removed from the team, and the reason given was that he did not have much international experience.
Yuvraj recalls: “I told them that until and unless you give me international experience, how do I get it? That was the most hurting incident in my life since I started playing.”
For the next four months, he stopped playing. But he moved on. And as we look today, he just created history.

He owned Gold Medal at the South Africa test series in Delhi in the year 2012

He is the only Indian player to play in German Hockey League for 4 years continuously

All the above achievements would have not been a reality if Yuvraj Walmiki would have given up even after his 13th rejection. He was motivated even after this because of his hunger for hockey.

wake up for in the morning—something that you are “up to” in life so
that you will stay hungry.
The vision can be created right now—better now than later. You can
always change it if you want, but don’t live a moment longer without

3. Tell yourself a true lie.
I remember when I saw a young girl who participated
in a school poetry reading in which all her classmates had to write a “lie
the poem” about how great they were.
They were supposed to make up untruths about themselves that made
them sound unbelievably wonderful. I realized as I listened to the poems
that the children were reciting an unintended version of what they intended to be in the future.
By “lying” to themselves they were creating a vision of who they wanted to be.
It’s noteworthy, too, that public schools are so out of touch with the
motivational sources of individual achievement and personal success
that in order to invite children to express big visions for themselves they
have to invite the children to “lie.”
Most of us are unable to see the truth of who we could be. The young girl’s school developed an unintended solution to that difficulty.
If it’s hard for you to imagine the potential in yourself, then you might
want to begin by expressing it as a fantasy, as did the children who
wrote the poems. Think up some stories about who you would like to
be. Your subconscious mind doesn’t know you’re fantasizing.
Soon you will begin to create the necessary blueprint for stretching your
accomplishments. Without a picture of your highest self, you can’t live
into that self. Fake it till you make it. The lie will become the truth one day.
4. Always Keep your eyes on the prize.
Most of us never really focus. We constantly feel a kind of irritating
psychic chaos because we keep trying to think of too many things at

many negative possibilities. Rather than focusing on the end goal,
we worry about all the ramifications of falling. Rather than focusing on
our goals, we are distracted by our worries and fears.
But when you focus on what you want, it will come into your life.
When you focus on being a happy and motivated person, that is who you will be.
One day the A coach wanted to show his students a new technique of shooting an arrow. He told his students to cover his eyes with a cloth and then he shot his arrow. When he opened his eyes, he saw the target with no arrow in it and when he looked at his students, they looked embarrassed because their teacher had missed.
The Coach asked them, “What lesson do you think I intend to teach you all today?” They answered, “We thought you would show us how to shoot at the target without looking.” The Coach said, “No, I taught you that if you want to be successful in life, don’t forget the target. You have to keep an eye on the target, otherwise, you may miss a good opportunity in life.” They looked at each other, impressed with the lesson.
The moral of the story is we need to consistently focus on what we want and we need to realize that :
- What thoughts we focus on we FEEL, therefore our thoughts have a direct effect on our emotions
- What we focus on and feel we attract in our lives. Our destiny is consistently shaped by our thoughts.
5. Learn to sweat in peace-
The harder you are on yourself, the easier life is on you. Or, as they say
in the Navy Seals, the more you sweat in peacetime, the less you bleed
There is a very famous quote by Bill gates,
“Amateurs Practice Until They Get It Right; Professionals Practice Until They Can’t Get It Wrong.”
So, You need to practice even when you are not actually facing the problem because if you keep practicing, you will be motivated and you will be charged to take up the responsibilities at any time.
This practice is well followed in defense, where soldiers have to practice every day, irrespective of whether they have to face war or not.
Even those students come out with flying colors, who practice throughout the year and not just during the examination.

If you dream to become a Future leader, you need to start practicing leadership skills and qualities while you’re still an amateur… at some points in time, some people will laugh at you, even your close friends will find you weird.
